The Grand Canyon takes your breath away just like you would expect, we had been tossing up for months whether or not it was in our budget to fly over in a helicopter. We decided that as our states tour was an ‘add on’ to our main trip touring from Mexico to Panama we decided against it.
I think we can both look back and say we regret not doing the helicopter tour, you are blown away by the beauty but I think to get an understanding of how big the Grand Canyon really is, the only way to capture is up in the air. Still we had an amazing day walking on the skyline and checking out the Grand Canyon.
After the Grand Canyon we went to Horseshoe Bend what we didn’t know was that it was a 5km round trip. We arrived at around 7.30pm and decided we would go check it out when we bumped into a lady and asked how long it would take, she proceeded to tell me your never going to make it on those crutches. I nearly burst into tears right in front of her. Horseshoe Bend was one of our must dos!
Crutching back to our van I sat on the bed and cried.
Off Jake went to scout out the hike and take pictures, he came back with a solid plan. We would be waking up at 5.30am to avoid the heat, I would crutch the flat and he would piggy back me up the hills.
I woke up to Jake brewing the coffee providing the caffeine we would need for the adventure and off we went.
There are times in your relationship where your partner will do something for you that just makes you think your the luckiest girl in the world. Being piggybacked the whole way back up the hill by Jake is one of those situations. Now I might be the heaviest pack he has had to carry up a hill but he did it with class and a smile on his face.
I think there was a little bit of motivation from all the ladies coming down the hill saying they had a rolled ankle and needed a hunky man to carry them up, whilst also informing me that I was the luckiest girl in the world! ITS TRUE, I AM!
